We tested our first prototype in the bathroom of one of our dorms. In order to avoid wasting latex, we only coated the canvas half way. We figured that it would be primarily unsuccessful anyway due to the gorilla glue breaking (because it was very brittle) and when the glue came off it removed a thin layer of fabric with it. The glue's hardness also decreased the bucket's flexibility. However, the latex proved to be a successful coating material.
Once we filled the bucket halfway we saw that it had started to leak from the bottom of the bucket, near the seams. (This can be observed in the video below) This was because the coating was not even. In the future, we will apply several coats of latex to ensure that the bucket can withstand high water pressure before it starts leaking.
We then filled the bucket all the way, even though all of the canvas was not coated in latex. This was done to test the strength of the seams and to see the natural ability of the cotton canvas to resist leaking.
All in all, this prototype served its purpose and gave us a better idea of how we can improve our final design, based on the bucket's structure, the glue we used, the fabric, and the stitch that we used.
